My boyfriend and I just went there for the first time tonight after seeing the reviews on yelp and wanting to try some place new. Walking in, the restaurant smelled like you'd expect from a good Italian restaurant. I knew we'd made the right choice in coming here. John, the owner, took our take out order. He was friendly and you can tell he is passionate about his food and the quality. We got the sausage, pepperoni, and mushroom pizza with garlic rolls and cannoli's for dessert. Everything was delicious and we are definitely going back soon.

Delicious, the garlic roles are great and the Chicken Parm hit the spot. Will return for more.

Absolutely the best pizza place in town!!! The owner, John, is usually at the front and greats most of the customers. I eat here quite often and am never disappointed! The food is great!! Recently new location

I preferred the other location. but the food is still the same. just to far for me to go just to grab dinner. but I would go again if I was in the area. went one time since they moved just to check it out. the owner seems like a really nice guy.

I wish I could say my experience was as great like so many others before me. Unfortunately the sad reality is John the Baker should just stick to pizza and garlic rolls. I made the misfortunate decision to try the fettuccine chicken alfredo and my wife had spaghetti with marinara sauce. There was no amount of salt or parmesan cheese I could add to give it some flavor. The chicken's texture was rubbery and it was poorly seasoned. The whole dish was bland. The spaghetti with marinara sauce was just as bad. The sauce was watered down and it pooled at the bottom of the plate despite serveral attempts to mix it with the pasta. I could have sworn the pasta and the sauce were polar opposites the way they repelled each other. Voicing my displeasure fell on deaf ears. No attempt was made to offer another dish. Let this serve as a cautionary warning to all future customers.

After our favorite pizza shop closed, we had to find an alternate. This place was as good, or better! I love that it is clearly family owned and operated. The Neapolitan style pizza is a stand out, fresh and high quality ingredients. Looking forward to coming back to sample more of the menu.

Love this place!! Amazing delicious pizza, ready fast. Toppings are fresh, service is excellent. My favorite pizzeria in the area. Great for eat in or take out. Glad we live nearby. Has a mushroom sausage pizza last weekend that blew my socks off.

Delicious! Service was a bit slow, but food was served steaming hot and fresh. Garlic rolls are just as good as I remember them from North Miami (Mario the Baker) days. Loved it!

Great family Italian restaurant New location is great as there's lots of parking. Garlic rolls are to die for. Had a celebration for my kids here and it was great. We had one server who handled the 28 people great, even the couple of late comers. Food was great as usual and the price was right. Everyone ordered different dishes and pizzas. Everything was great. Glad we chose this location for our celebration.

John the Baker, a family run Italian sensation! For as long as I could remember my father would take the family out to eat John the Baker pizza and garlic rolls and that created an imprint on me. Every pizza I've ever eaten was always compared to Johns. Located off the corner of Flamingo and Sheridan, you'll find this amazing spot. Parking is a breeze usually steps away from the entrance. You'll walk in and be seated almost immediately (certain nights it's a little bit of a wait, roughly 20-30 mins) Place is simple but chic at the same time... Imagine modern with a little traditional and thats what you get. Garlic rolls are a MUST and inexpensive, a dozen for $5?! Yes... Make it two dozen.... Why stop there?! Eat ALL ROLLS! (Just kidding, that's bad advice) but definitely order the rolls, they're crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside :) The pizza is also great! I'm a simple person, pepperoni or cheese only, I don't like a heavy pizza. The crust is New York style which is always important, at least for me. Don't forget to order dessert, they have Cannolis that will make your mouth and belly very happy!

  • Michelle F.

The food is fantastic! The Cannoli is to die for and so are the garlic rolls. My friends had a cheese pizza and a side of sausage (which was covered in marinara sauce). They seemed to really enjoy their food. I also had a cappuccino and it was average (I've had better). Now for the service..HORRIBLE! Our waitress forgot everything. She forgot my friends beer 3 times and charged him for the beer that he never received. I paid my bill (you pay at the cash register) and half way to my car my waitress runs out and tells me I never paid my bill. Thank god I saved my receipt because I had to show her that I had paid my bill. Very disorganized. Pros: Great food. Cons: Terrible service.

I can't believe I've been to Pembroke Pines and have never been to this pizzeria. We ordered the Hawaiian and the John the Baker pizza. The service was pretty good, but the thin crust really made the experience. Unfortunately, the dessert wasn't very good. I truly look forward to the Tiramisu but it was frozen- it was intended for takeout. We also ordered a cannoli and I wasn't impressed, but it's like any other cannoli. Overall it was a good experience with friends.

Classic family Italian restaurant! The food is incredible, service is always on point and the garlic rolls...oh man. A friend of ours grew up eating here and introduced us to this place a few years ago. We've been hooked ever since! The baked ziti with ricotta is a favorite of our group! Pizza, eggplant parmigiana and salads are also on our regular rotation. As mentioned before, the garlic rolls are amazing! Get here early as there usually is a little bit of a wait during prime times. But the owner can be seen passing out free roll samples to his hungry customers waiting outside to make the wait more bearable. What a great place!

  • Melissa D.

John the Baker has moved yet again, yet the quality remains the same! The garlic rolls are unlike any other; light, fluffy, and full of flavor (caution: you will need a breath mint after these!). The baked ziti has always been a favorite of mine, and the recipe remains unchanged from the first time I sampled it back in the early 1990's. John the Baker is always a must on my visits home to South Florida.

The best pizza and garlic rolls I've ever had! My husband and I go to John the Baker every single week! No pizza can compare!

  • Aimee R.

The eggplant parmesan was 90 percent breading, the veal parmesan was pure rubber and the sausage was absolutely disgusting and had to be thrown out. I would never recommend this restaurant. The only thing worth raving about were the garlic rolls.

This is the only place to get pizza in the Cooper City / Davie / Pembroke Pines area (I would even drive out here if I lived in Weston or Hollywood) Where do I even start, the sauce is delicious, and they cook the pizzas perfectly every time. They don't use canned veggies (if they are canned they are the most fresh canned veggies ever) and I have never gotten something and been disappointed with it (the only disappointment that happens is when the food is all gone) their garlic rolls are delicious and the whole operation is so finely tuned, everyone at the restaurant is on the same page and the customer service is great! I love how John actually works in the store and you would be lucky to have a pizza made by John himself! 5/5 will come here until I move!

  • Erica G.

This place is an oldie but still a goodie! The garlic rolls and pizza are the best I've ever had. I've stuck with them with every location. Service is always great and the food always fresh & hot. I've never regretted a visit here...so I won't hesitate to recommend to anyone.

Spent the afternoon at car dealerships and decided to ask Siri to help us find restaurants. John The Baker won us over with its casual atmosphere. We walked in tired and hungry! We told our waitress (Melody) how hungry we were and she immediately took our order: Pasta Fagioli, Personal size sausage pizza, eggplant parm in Alfredo sauce with a side of spaghetti, and The Garlic Rolls!!! My wife and I shared the single portions. The pizza was a lil oily. In my opinion the eggplant was a lil too heavy with mozzarella however the Alfredo was nice. The Fagioli was yum and the garlic rolls were perfectly balanced with oil n garlic, crispy on top, with a nice and fluffy center. Melody was on top of everything making sure we were taken care of. The restaurant is very casual and appears to be very family friendly. Bathrooms were clean and large. Downside; food was just a bit too oily for my liking that's about it. Judging from the pop of the cork, the couple next to us opened a nice bottle of wine. I've been to many restaurants of this type and usually they have a young unattentive wait staff, but NOT John The Baker. Service 10! atmosphere 10! It's a loud place filled with smiling faces and a few tvs to watch a game. For a quick bite, you certainly won't be disappointed.

Delicious food!! Can't believe I just discovered this place recently. This location is just about five minutes from my house. Amazing service- owners are almost always present which shows the commitment they make to serve quality service. Customer service in a restaurant is a must and this place definitely has that and good food!

Sorry to inform the John the Baker fans but last night while I was paying a waiter came up the the guy at the register John Jr. And told him that there was a hair in the food of one of the guests. Jr. told the waitress to pluck the hair out and give it back to the guest. From the look in their face it looked as if they were contemplating on plucking the hair but I kind of stared with disgust. I called today to inform the manager and he said that it was a joke. Well that is not a joke. I for one will never visit the restaurant to bad I love their pizza.....

If you come here you have to order the garlic rolls! They are the best garlic rolls I've ever tasted, to die for! The food is great too. I've had a few of the pastas like spaghetti and bow-ties with pink sauce and they taste pretty good. The owners are really sweet and the workers are mostly really efficient with quick service. They moved to a new location and its better than ever because it looks cleaner and the space is much bigger and more refined! Loved what they've done to the place! It looks much fancier now. Definitely worth eating at!

I finally tried some take-out from John The Baker on the advice of a good friend of mine... and it is great! In addition to the amazing smell of bread, cheese, and sauce that will take over your nose, the staff is really friendly. The lady behind the counter (whose name escapes me) welcomed me right in, shared her favorites on the menu, and talked a bit about New England. I ordered 2 subs: a chicken parm and a meatball parm. These subs were the REAL DEAL - fully loaded on homemade rolls. I was told that I would get some free garlic rolls to try, but they forgot to put them in my bag. So, I'll have to try the garlic rolls next time, but I won't hold forgetting a free sample against them. Next time, I will definitely be trying their pizza!

Not too busy this Sunday afternoon. We were seated immediately and greeted warmly. 2-words: DELICIOUS PIZZA!!! We had a large John the Baker special and it was excellent! We will be back if we are in the area!

We have been coming to John the Baker since the days when he managed the location in N. Miami, and have been regular customers for over 35 years. The food, rolls and wine are always a wonderful experience.

Being from New Jersey, originally, I can really appreciate good New York style pizza. I have tried a lot of pizza down here in South Florida and I have yet to find a better one than John's. But, the star of the menu has to be the garlic rolls. They are amazing! I can eat a dozen of them and just skip anything else! When I'm not getting pizza, my favorite main dish is the baked ziti with ricotta. They just recently moved to a new location. It's a nice new fresh look and there is now plenty of parking. The shopping center they are in has a several good food options, including the Fresh Market. But, if it's Italian you want, especially pizza, John the Baker is a home run, as far as I am concerned. Oh yeh, I had the home-made tiramisu and it was awesome!

Same wonderful restaurant, just their new location. Garlic rolls are lightly crispy on the outside & soft on the inside with a nice coating of oil & fresh garlic. Nothing better! Oh, and terrific NY style pizza. Make sure to leave room for dessert. Cannoli is amazing.

If you want pizza come here. This is a great family business a family friendly. The pizzas come in different sizes and flavors.Just one thing, don't order chicken franchese. It is really rubbery and disgusting. The service is good and all the employees are super friendly. If you are looking for a basic place to eat with your children, I would recommend John The Baker.

Best garlic rolls anywhere, period. Great cheese canelloni. Mix those two for a fantastic meal. Friendly people there too. Pizza has bee eratic, great to good, but you gotta go just for the insane garlic rolls.

  • Amy Jo A.

Family owned and happy place to take your family. The pizza is good but garlic rolls are the best. Try the sloppy sausage sandwich. Yum and you can have a beer too. The new location is even more convenient for families in cooper city, Davie and Weston.

  • Andrea B.

Been going to John the Baker for too many years to remember and unfortunately, the food has gone waaaaay downhill. Without a doubt, the pizza and garlic rolls are absolutely the best. It's actually the best pizza I have found since moving from NY long ago. However, the rest of the food just isn't up to par. I don't know if John is trying to save a buck but it's starting to show in his food. The tomato sauce he tops his spaghetti and pasta with is nothing but a thick, gooey paste. We were recently in his new location and saw a couple of tables with their pasta and meals barely touched. That really should have been a sign. The lasagne is still decent, but also has changed over the years. Also, some of the staff there need a real attitude adjustment. Was at a party recently and many of the guests there were talking about what a shame it is that the food just isn't what it used to be.

LOVE this place. We go several times a month. Rolls are amazing, but expect to taste it for days. LOL Pizza is great, sort of too thin and not filling, but good. If the pizza wasn't paper thin I would've given it 5 stars.

  • Chris P.

This place is always packed so I figured I would try it. My chic francaise was barely edible and served with spaghetti and red sauce. Why? How are the 2 compatible? I had to cook my own spaghetti to mix in with the chic and it's butter/lemon sauce. But I still couldn't eat it. The pizza was okay; thicker crust than I like. The best thing was the garlic rolls.

Listen, I dont eat here often, maybe 6 times a year.... but I had a fender bender with one of the delivery guys a few years back. The delivery guy was really apologetic and had me speak to the owner. This owner is really a stand up kind of guy. Really stepped up to the plate with responsibility for the accident. Treated me like I was his family. He was honest, polite, and very helpful. I think this says alot about him as a business owner as well. They have great food and great moral values. I 100% support this business!

  • Sofia N.

I've been going to John The Baker for over a decade, following the restaurant around from location to location. The garlic rolls really are the best ever and every time my family and I eat garlic rolls from any other restaurant we always say they are not as good as John The Baker's! Caution - they are very garlicy! Be prepared for a garlic aftertaste for hours! Pizza is not my favorite here, but the pasta is always fresh and delicious.

    (4)
  • Barry V.

I have mixed emotions about the new location. It is closer to home which is good but now ill wind up eating here more often which is bad for my waistline. The food at John the Baker is your quintessential neighborhood pizza place serving great pizza and Italian specialties. There is nothing fancy or pretentious about this place which perfected their formula decades ago in North Miami. The menu barely changes so you know exactly what you are getting. They don't try to do everything because everything they do, they do well. The red sauce may be a bit garlicky for some but it is what makes it John the Baker. Especially known for their garlic rolls, you can't miss starting off with a few. The pizza is hot, cheesy and delicious. You can't miss with this place.

  • Crystal M.

It was amazing! Our garlic rolls were a little on the burnt side but once we asked for a fresh batch everything was as close to perfect as possible. You can't go wrong with the pepperoni pizza it was so yummy

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
